Junior Jams
An engaging Early Childhood music group for All Abilities.
Service Description
Come join us for an exciting music-making session for children ages 2-5. Facilitated by Registered Music Therapist Gabrielle Newland, participants will be supported to enhance their communication, social awareness, and interaction skills in a group setting. Through collaborative musical activities, the session will focus on developing abilities such as turn-taking, concentration, following instructions and improving Executive Functioning skills (impulse control, working memory and mental flexibility). Parents and caregivers will also participate, learning songs and musical exercises that they can continue at home, fostering creativity and bonding with their child. In this dynamic 30-minute session, we'll sing, drum, play instruments, move, and dance to music, experiencing its calming and regulatory effects firsthand. Key outcomes: - Encourage Creativity: Foster children's imagination through music and movement activities. - Develop Listening Skills: Help children learn to listen actively and attentively. - Promote Social Interaction: Provide opportunities for children to interact with peers in a musical setting, encouraging sharing and collaboration. - Build Confidence: Support children to express themselves through music, boosting self-esteem and confidence. - Enhance Motor Skills: Develop fine and gross motor skills through activities like dancing, clapping, and playing instruments. - Support Language Development: Use songs and rhymes to enhance language skills, including vocabulary, pronunciation, and comprehension. - Promote Child/Carer Bonding: Provide opportunities for parents or caregivers to participate in the music-making process with their children.
